Flitwick got their 2017-18 league campaign off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over last season's runner's-up AFC Oakley .
In the 1st half Flitwick had 2 great chances to take the lead , the 1st from new signing Tom Bates who missed the target with the goal gaping and the 2nd from Dan Stafford who hit the keepers legs when through one on one. Flitwick would come to rue these misses when Oakley took the lead in the 38th min when a good move down the left was finished well and took them into the Break 1 nil up.
In the 2nd half Flitwick equalised in the 52 nd min when a Ritchie Bevan corner was fumbled by the Oakley keeper and m.o.m Ben Lee-philips finished with a low drive from the centre of the box .In the 60th min Flitwick took the lead when a move down the right saw Josh Reynolds cross to the far post and Dan Stafford made no mistake heading into the bottom corner . Oakley tried hard to get back on level terms but Flitwick's defence stood firm and they increased their lead when Phil Matthews won the ball in midfield and fed Stafford who out muscled his defender and finished past the advancing keeper . Oakley had a couple of chances to reduce the arrears but failed to take them and Flitwick had the final chance when Matthews won a penalty but Stafford missed the resulting kick and the chance of a hatrick .
Overall a good start in very windy conditions.
