U-8s compete in Somerset FA Futsal tournament

Frys U-8s were part of a 5 team tournament hosted at Ralph Allen School last weekend.

Other teams included an A & B team from Keynsham Town, Frome and Bruton. As with other tournaments at this age group there are no overall winners and each player received a badge at the end of all matches.

Squads were made up of 10 or less players with each match being 5-aside and roll on / roll off substitutes. Each game was 15 minutes long.

We started off the whole shooting match with a game against Keynsham Town A, and as per usual the friendly rivalry soon drove each side on to get a result. And as usual Toby scored against them as we won 1-0.

Our second match was against Keynsham Town B, which again was a close run thing. This time Keynsham ran out 1-0 winners!

The third match was against Frome. After watching their first 2 games it became apparent that they were the team to beat and looked very strong. The boys set about the task well but went one down before Rio struck a beauty to equalise. Frome took the lead again shortly afterwards but we showed our spirit again with Harrison Heard bringing us level. The game ended 2-2.

Our last game was against Bruton. Goals from Toby (A hat-trick in 7.5 minutes!), Max and Jack sealed an emphatic 5-0 victory.

Every match was played with great skill and respect for each team. Futsal is new to us as a team but Andy & I were left impressed and will be looking for further opportunities to play this fast and technical form of football.

A special mention to Harrison who was singled out by the organisors and recognised for his 'Respect' towards other players.

Ellis & Harrison also won Our Players of the Tournament and took home a Futsal each. Ellis was excellent throughout and provided 3 assists in the Bruton game alone. Harrison's close control and passing ability really shone in this format of the game.
Max won the Captain of the day for his never say die attitude and encouragement given to his team mates.
