u13s win the league!

Gateshead Storm u13s were on the road for the last time this season knowing that a victory would add the division 3 league title to the continuation cup and moody plate trophies they'd already won this season.

It was a nervy opening to the game with Storm exchanging the early sets against a much improved Hunslet Club Parkside. Then up stepped Harry Harlow-Stephenson to settle the nerves with back to back tries. The first try followed some good work from Will Rolls to open up a gap, the second direct from the kick off after breaking the line and showing a fine turn of pace.
Storms confidence ballooned and they started paying some great rugby. Props Hanson and Mkwanazi came to the fore making some great ground and off the back of this hard work Dan Cassap went to town scoring 2 tries down the right hand side of the pitch - the second being a fantastic 80m effort.
Will Rolls finished the first half scoring when him and Harlow-Stephenson reversed roles of the earlier effort, but this time it was Rolls who found the gap. It looked like the Hunslet defence had manged to stop him, but then he sneaked out an arm to get the ball over the line.

With a 30 - 0 half time lead there were some positional changes at half time with Mkwanazi moving to the wing and Hutchinson taking his place at prop.
The beginning of the second half looked like it was going to be a complete different story with Hunslet piling on the pressure. Some set restarts and goal line drop outs mead Storm had to defend their line again and again, but they stood firm. That was until the damn eventually broke and the Hunslet centre scored a smart try from the half way line.
Hunslet looked like they might kick on, but up stepped Dan Cassap to score his hat-trick try and put any thoughts of a comeback away.
Will Rolls added his second with another dive over the line and Cassap wrapped the game up and topped a fine personal performance with his 4th try.
A special mention is deserved for Dan Swift, who although not on the score sheet, was a thorn in the homes sides side all day, making break after break and giving a lot of the field position that Storm scored from.

Storm take a break next week, but will have their final league game in October when they take on 2nd place York Acorn
