Gedling host local rivals in 2nd Round of Nottinghamshire Senior Cup

Gedling Miners Welfare welcome Arnold Town to Plains Road on Tuesday night (6th November) in the second round of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup in an all East Midlands Counties affair, kick off 7.45pm.

The hosts will look for some league respite against The Eagles after a poor run of form has seen them slip to 16th in the table following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Radford in a run that has yielded 7 consecutive losses.

Their last win came in the first round of the competition where they defeated NSL outfit Wollaton 1-0 after an 83rd minute from Ross McCaughey, but will buoyed by recent performances, notably at the weekend, where they were unlucky to leave Selhurst Street empty handed.

Arnold make the short journey in wretched form and have only notched 2 points all season in the league and come into this one following a bye in the first round.

They carry a league goal difference of -55 into the match but, like Gedling, might be encouraged by some recent performances against Eastwood Community and Belper United; the latter of which they managed to double their points tally for the season.

The two sides have met already this season at Eagle Valley where the match ended all square after a controversial 93rd minute penalty from Curtis Millward stole a point for the home side. Chris Freestone and Dwayne Brown getting the goals for Miners that day.

The 3rd round opponents of Tuesday’s match has yet to be decided but both teams will want to build some momentum away from respective league campaigns with a solid run in Nottingham’s distinguished cup competition.

Your support is greatly appreciated and always welcome.
