Match report

Gill made the long trip up the M5 to take on Tytherington Rocks FC. On the back of a well earned point against Cheddar confidence is building amongst the squad and with a change in fortune would have comfortably come away with 3 points.

Gill started the brighter of the 2 teams and were looking dangerous on every attack with chances coming thick and fast. James Boyland had a long range effort saved, Max Westlake had a shot blocked when well positioned and Jordon Clapp and Tom Jarvis both went close. It was finally Clapp who opened the scoring with a fabulous solo effort, picking up the ball on the half way line he rolled the Rocks centre half beating him for pace to calmly slot into the corner of the net. Gill continued to press and were unlucky when a volley from Boyland rocketed off the post and a one on one was saved by the Rocks keeper. Rocks equalised shortly before half time when a cross was only half cleared and a looping pass was headed in from close range.

Gill started the second half strongly and were deservedly ahead when a shot from Boyland was parried by the home goalkeeper for Clapp to slot in for his second of the game. As the half continued Rocks began to get a hold on the game but a hardworking and compact back 4 and midfield 3 thwarted most of the Rocks threat with Luke Jackson partnering centre half Andrew Holmes in the absence of skipper Jack Dicker and Harry Boulton putting in a great shift at right back. With time almost up it was a heartbreaking finale to the game as Rocks midfielder Max Wilding wriggled through a number of challenges and rifled home to equalise in the 94th minute.

A promising display from Gill who were devastated to concede so late on and will rue several missed chances in the first half. After a number of fixtures have been rescheduled Gill now travel to top of the table Wells City FC on Saturday.
