Ollie Kemp caught up with Glebe striker Jamie Philpot during Pre Season Training
After hearing the latest confirmation striker, Jamie Philpot, has signed a one-year contract keeping him at the club for another season, I spoke with him about his thoughts on the upcoming season and what the fans can look forward to.
Going into his fifth year at the club, Jamie highlighted how there were a number of reasons that contributed to him signing another contract ranging from his ‘’relationship with club chairman Rocky McMillan and his wife Grace, the coaching staff Danny Oakins and Craig Nelson staying on, and a few of the boys staying on from last season as well’’. The goal machine believes that this will give the squad a solid foundation to build from and can lead to positive things.
With pre-season now well underway Jamie and the rest of the squad have hit the ground running and have already turned their attention to their first game of the season, which comes in the form of the FA cup. When speaking about the teams’ goals and aspirations for the season Jamie had this to say – ‘’We’ve always been there and there abouts in the past few seasons and we feel we can make a real push for promotion this season with the squad we’ve got so we just have to worry about ourselves’’.
Jamie also spoke about his previous time at Millwall and how that experience has helped to mould him into the fine player he is today and allowed him to pick up professional characteristics such as leadership, so it comes to no surprise that he is now captain at Foxbury Avenue. Philpot emphasised the importance of values and how he has ‘’demanded high standards within the squad’’ that he has tried to instil not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch in everyday life, setting himself out as a remarkable role model for the rest of the team.
After his latest breath-taking season, the team’s talisman managed to grab himself the golden boot after bagging an astonishing 31 goals in the league. However, for someone as ambitious as Jamie, who likes to set himself high expectations, he reiterated the fact that ‘’there is always room for improvement’’ demonstrating his driven nature and elite mindset. This will be vital for Glebe in the upcoming season, where the league is more competitive than ever, and he will play a key role in the push for promotion.
