On the 11th March, the Glen Rovers Under 16's will travel to Limerick to play 3 matches against high quality local opposition as well as catching 2 National League matches in the Gaelic Grounds and receive training sessions from some of Limericks inter county stars.
The weekend will kick off with the short plane journey to Shannon, and from there an even shorter trip to their appointed Hotel in Limerick City. They will train in the UL training facility on Friday where they will be joined by 2 current Limerick County Stars who will put the team through their paces in preparation for the 3 local teams that they will face on Saturday. In the evening they will enjoy a team meal at the Hotel and take a short tour of the surrounding area.
Saturday is what it is all about and it starts early with bus ride to LIT Campus and sports facility where they will pitch the talent that won them 2 Hertfordshire titles a mere 6 months ago against the best that Limerick underage football has to offer.
Once all matches are played and new friends are made they will make the short hop to the famous Gaelic Grounds of Limerick GAA where they will be special guests at the double header of Limerick v Laois in the National Hurling League & Limerick v Westmeath in the National Football League.
On Sunday the team will head home to Watford but not before a trip to the Gaelic Grounds for 9.45am where they will be treated to a training session on the main pitch by yet more Limerick County Stars. They will no doubt look down from their plane window on what was a fantastic trip as they leave the Emerald Isle in the early afternoon.
On the weekend the team will be joined by the Glen Rovers Under 16 Management team of John Brennan & Neill Sullivan, Hertfordshire County Under 16 Manager Gavin O'Connor, Glen Rovers Senior Player Andy Carey as well as parents & guardians of some of the players.
When asked what the trip meant to the team, John Brennan said " This is a great opportunity for this group of players to see how they do against players from Ireland and its a great reward after working so hard to win the Championship and League double last year"
Joint Captain's, Aiden & Ethan said " It's class to go to Ireland as a team together to play against Irish teams and get trained by Inter county players. We feel proud to be representing Hertfordshire as a club and we want to see if we can beat the Irish teams. Oh!! and we are going to have great fun as well."
