On a changeable Saturday morning the new season for 2016/17 started for the Glossop north end under 9 blues squad! The team all looking remarkably smart in the new kit (even though all their hands were missing) warmed up, preparing themselves for the first match of the campaign! (last week's match postponed)

The team line up is Nathan in goal, Matthew, Lucas, Len, Harvey, Theo, Zac, Louie, Billy and Joe

The boys were playing Fc sports and they started by shooting away from the supporters! (the supporters had to move due to the smell from a dead creature lol)

As the whistle blew for kick off Fc sports team looked lively and we're passing well! The Glossop boys tackled well and tried to pass and looked good. Then a short pass allowed Fc sports through and a run saw them score!
The supporters cheered them on! It was only 5-8 minutes in!

They set up and it seemed to wake them all up! Short quick passes, great movement, holding their positions better and Len made a fabulous run and with his left foot shot and scored! The supporters went wild and suddenly we were back! After the start the boys continued to pressure making it very difficult for Fc sports to get out of their half! The pressure eventually ended up with a corner to the blues! A great ball in from the corner found the head of Theo, who skillfully headed it home!!! Another goal!! This was more like it! And well deserved! Again back to the set up! Subs were made. This time Fc pressed and pushed forward! Some good defending and getting back saw the ball passed to Louie in space! The run by Louie went up the right wing from our own half and just before the goal line he turned, head up, and passed a ball to the feet of Len in the box who shot and scored a screamer! The supporters went wild!! The team went wild!! A goal made in the premiership!!!

At the set up the supporters started to wonder how much longer this half had! A really thrilling half ended with the Glossop boys pressing again and finding Harvey who had space, tried the shot and somehow the ball dribbled passed the defence and goal keeper and scored a rather odd goal! Again the team went wild! This time the teams set up as the half time whistle went!

So far they had played some really good football and looked the stronger of the two teams.

The second half started and Len, Billy and Matthew were rested. Fc sports came out again at the blues just like they had at the start of the match! Some great footwork and skill saw our blues struggling to deal with them! Some good defending saved the team from several attacks. As the boys were defending at the far end of the pitch it was hard to see much of the play! This was the best and longest spell for Fc sports with the ball and pressure, they won several corners and kept the blues firmly in their half! As with all pressure eventually a great piece of skill saw Fc sports score a second goal! The supporters groaned but had forgotten that the blues were still in front from the first half! (even though they are supposed to play for fun and score not matter lol)

After the set up the blues tried to run more at their defence and again Louie made several darting runs and Joe found some good space but Fc were quick to defend and break back! As the half went on the supporters nervously watched as the blues struggled with the pace from Fc. After 10 minutes subs were made again! Louie came off and flopped on the floor! Job well done from him! Matt, Len and Billy back on! The reshuffle of players to allow Matt back in defence moved Harvey and Theo up the field! This gave the team some space and with Matt making some very well timed tackles, and Theo and Len linking up in mid field the boys were able to break through Fc sports defence and Theo shot home another great goal!

Again as they set back up again the nervous parents wanted to know how many minutes left! Such a great end to end game! Again some great defending from Lucas saw the ball moved through the Glossop team and more pressure saw a corner! Referee now starting to look at his watch! Len steps up again to take the corner and he kicks a curler towards the keeper! Matthew on the back post waiting watched the keeper get to the ball but the kick was too strong and the ball went through his hands into the net as Matt kicked it! Fabulous football from the blues! All doing the jobs they'd been working on! Surely now it must be the end and after the restart the ref blew to end the match!

A fantastic start for the blues with a good win! MOM was given to Theo for all his hard work and 2 great goals!!

The new season has started as we would like it too! Hard work has paid off!! Let's keep it up! Come on the blues!!!
