ALL GOLDS DRAW SKIRLAUGH IN LADBROKES CHALLENGE CUP

Chris Wilson20 Feb 2015 - 20:38

The All Golds waited right to the end of the evening before drawing Skirlaugh who will visit the Prince of Wales Stadium on 7/8 March

The University of Gloucestershire All Golds were in the final pairing drawn by three-time Challenge Cup winner Alex Murphy MBE and Malcolm Reilly OBE, a Challenge Cup winner as a player and coach with Castleford.

Both Murphy and Reilly are Rugby League Hall of Fame members and both have picked up the Lance Todd Trophy for the man of the match in the Final.

The 14 Kingstone Press League 1 clubs entered the 2015 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fray when they joined 10 community clubs in the draw that took place at Heritage Quay, University of Huddersfield on Tuesday.

The All Golds will welcome Skirlaugh to the Prince of Wales Stadium for the third round of Rugby League’s oldest and most prestigious knockout competition sponsored for the first time this year by Ladbrokes.

National Conference League Division One side Skirlaugh are no strangers to the All Golds as the sides were drawn together at the same stage of the 2013 competition. The All Golds came out 26-16 winners on Humberside before going on to face Super League side Salford Red Devils in the fourth round.

Skirlaugh will be the third visitors to Cheltenham from the great eastern seaboard city of Hull. The first of these was William Holder who was selected from Hull to play in the ‘Great Match’ of 1908. Then, in the mid 1980s, a team of Hull Kingston Rovers supporters played a game in the Cotswold spa town.

The draw also pairs newcomers Coventry Bears with fellow League 1 opposition Oldham for their first ever Challenge Cup tie while League 1 title contenders Barrow Raiders and Keighley Cougars will meet in Cumbria.

Other notable ties in the third round, which will be played over the weekend of March 7 and 8, include, North Wales Crusaders entertaining Widnes West Bank, Oxford travelling to Hemel Stags and
Oulton Raiders taking on Normanton Knights

The final will be played at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 29 August, 120 years to the day since Rugby League was founded at a meeting at the George Hotel in Huddersfield in 1895.

The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup third round draw in full is as follows:

North Wales Crusaders v Widnes West Bank

Elland v Featherstone Lions

Wath Brow Hornets v Newcastle Thunder

Hemel Stags v Oxford RLFC

Oulton Raiders v Normanton Knights

Leigh Miners Rangers v West Hull

Oldham RLFC V Coventry Bears

London Skolars v Swinton Lions

The third round ties will be played over the weekend of March 7-8.
