Match Report: Fort William 2-3 Golspie
High Drama as Five Goals and Five Red Cards Steal the Show

In an astonishing clash at Claggan Park, Golspie held on to secure a narrow 3-2 victory over Fort William in a game that will live long in the memory for its goals, drama, and an extraordinary five red cards.

The visitors started on the front foot, taking the lead early when a Craig Gunn corner caused havoc in the Fort William box, leading to an unfortunate own goal. Golspie maintained pressure and might have added to their tally sooner, but it was Martin Banks who eventually doubled their lead. Another Gunn corner was nodded down by Joe Anderson, and Banks made no mistake from close range.

The home side, however, grew into the game, and their persistence paid off on the half-hour mark when the fort striker found the net to halve the deficit. As the first half came to a close, Golspie goalkeeper Steven Martin made a smart save low to his right to deny Fort William an equalizer.

HT: Fort William 1-2 Golspie

The second half began evenly, but Golspie regained control when Graham MacNab scored a neat finish to restore their two-goal cushion. However, celebrations were short-lived as the match descended into chaos.

Fort William’s captain was sent off moments later for an astonishing headbutt on Joe Anderson, reducing the home side to ten men. Undeterred, Fort William rallied, and Munro struck again to bring them back within one.

Drama continued as Golspie’s Luke McBeath earned a straight red card for an inexplicable choke slam on the Fort William winger, leveling the playing field at 10 vs. 10. Tempers flared further, and an unused substitute from the Fort bench was also shown red for dissent.

Fort William began to pile on the pressure, and Steven Martin proved the hero for Golspie. The Golspie goalkeeper made a series of stunning saves, including a contender for “Save of the Season” when he dived full stretch to tip a goal-bound shot onto the post.

Golspie’s discipline continued to unravel, with Martin Banks seeing red for a late challenge and Graham MacNab dismissed shortly after for dissent, leaving the visitors to finish the game with eight men. Despite the chaos, Martin stood tall, making yet another impressive save through a crowded box.

In the dying moments, Fort William talisman Kane Davies avoided a potential red card after a reckless challenge on Cameron Sutherland, which also saw Martin take a heavy knock. Nonetheless, Golspie’s shot-stopper kept his composure, displaying excellent distribution and safe hands to see out the win.

FT: Fort William 2-3 Golspie

Steven Martin’s heroics earned him a well-deserved Man of the Match award, as Golspie left Claggan Park with three points, but face a suspension headache after the five dismissals in this action-packed encounter.
