Code of Conduct for Coaches and Volunteers

We expect all our coaches and volunteers to:

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person at Gomersal Cricket Club and not to discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, religion, race, sexual orientation or disability.
  • Act as a positive role model for Gomersal Cricket Club and to maintain high standards of behaviour, commitment, preparation and presentation.
  • Promote the positive aspects and benefits of playing cricket e.g. fair play.
  • Challenge any forms of discrimination or poor behaviour.
  • Hold relevant qualifications, disclosure certificates and insurance cover and ensure appropriate training is kept up to date.
  • Know and understand the ECB Welfare of Young People Policy and Procedures.
  • Place the safety and well-being of the young players above all other considerations.
  • Ensure activities are appropriate to the age and ability of the young players.
  • Develop positive relationships with the young players, based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Respect young player’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in cricket.
  • Ensure physical contact is appropriate and carried out with the full consent of the young player.
  • Work in an open environment and to avoid unsupervised contact with individual young players.
  • Not to engage in any form of sexually related conduct with a young player. This includes sexual innuendo, flirting or inappropriate gestures or terms.
  • Report any incidents or suspicions of inappropriate or poor behaviour to the Club Welfare Officers, Karen Wilby and Steve Pollard.
