HMS Dauntless Visits the Greens

HMS Dauntless Visits the Greens

David Hardy10 Oct 2010 - 20:53

On Saturday afternoon the crew of HMS Dauntless played a match against a Gorleston XI for the Help for Heroes and Save the Children charities.

Gorleston FC hosted the HMS Dauntless football team at Emerald Park, under a gloriously sunny sky, for a friendly game of football.

A fast paced game saw Gorleston, with guest appearances from Gary Skeggs, Carl Butler, Phil Wooldridge and Gary Ingram, 5-0 up at half time.

During the interval the crowd of over 100 were entertained by an army cadet band from Winterton.

The second half got underway and the Dauntless team had obviously had a serious peptalk during the interval as they managed to stop any further goals being scored well into the half but eventually further goals followed, one an unfortunate own goal but another was an unstoppable shot into the top left corner of the net from a good 30yds out.

HMS Dauntless, which was launched in 2007 and commissioned in June this year, has a crew of 190 and has been affiliated to Yarmouth. The crew also paraded from the Town Hall to St Nicholas Church and had 70 barrels of Ale made especially for them by the Blackfriars Brewery.

The final score was 9-0 to Gorleston but the real winners were the charities who will each receive £225.
