Boysie 0-6 Marske Utd, 2019-20
The last time Boysie played Marske United in a pre-season friendly, it was Grangetown who hosted Carl Jarrett's & Nicky Ward's yellows in 2019 with a hastily arranged friendly at the Boysie, now known as the B&W Lifting Stadium.
The game, one of the first in Jama Hunter's early tenure, saw the Seasiders run riot against a work in progress amber and black side. The away team racked up an easy 6 nil victory in front of the crowd of 143, which included goals from local fan favourites Rio May, Curtis Round and friend of the club Lewis Maloney who scored a stunning free-kick.
South Park Rangers 2-2 Marske Utd (Rangers won 8-7 on pens), 2022-23
The next meeting of note was one of the biggest upsets in North Riding Senior Cup history as the mighty Marske were knocked out by 11th tier South Park Rangers who even went on to reach the final. While South Park Rangers 1st team no longer exists, the core contingent of that squad form part of the current Boysie team today, among them the likes of Brookbanks, Leysh, Stuart, O'Brien, Glocky and others.
The South Park match saw Curtis Woodhouse's Seaasiders having to start a defender in goal after being caught short by cup rules which prevent new signings being registered for re-arranged games. Having sent Ryan Catterick out on loan to Northallerton, the Seasiders thought they were safe with loanee Mike Roxburgh between the sticks. However the Huddersfield shot-stopper was summoned last minute to a warm weather training camp aboard and with no other options available, Captain Adam Wheatley had to step in goal. The game ended 2-2 with South Park triumphing 8-7 in a sensational shoot-out.
Redcar Newmarket 3-1 Boysie, 2023-24
Boysie's last visit to Mount Pleasant stadium in April saw our side take on Craig Skelton and Simon Kassanoli's unbeaten Darlington United side, a club better known as Redcar Newmarket for all intents and purposes, following the reversal of an ill-fated rebrand and relocation to the Darlington arena.
The North Riding League title showdown between Boysie and Newmarket was played fresh off the news that the two Newmarket gaffers would soon return to Marske where they played extensively throughout their careers and helm the club's post-resignation rebuild, with just shy of 200 fans in attendance for the much anticipated midweek match.
The match was a hard fought affair with Boysie seeing more of the ball in the early midfield skirmishes, but ultimately found themselves going behind courtesy of some orchestral maneuvers in the dark where an early offside went unspotted by most due to a broken floodlight column obscuring the far corner.
However, Boysie hit back pretty much straight away against the league leaders thanks to a sensational strike from Dylan Gnaglo who had the future Seasiders on strings.
Grangetown piled on the pressure in the second half and looked good for a winner. But then disaster struck when Matty Hammerton received an un-arguable red card for instinctively stopping a goal bound shot on the line with his hand. Newmarket converted the resulting penalty and then put another past the ten man tigers for a 3-1 win en route to the title.
With Marske electing to sign most of the Newmarket team and with a new set of shiny floodlights in the far corner to boot, this should be a great test and an enlightening fixture for both sides who are in great form.
Boysie enter this friendly off the back of a 5-0 away win against Great Ayton and a 3-3 draw against Pools YFC on 3G in torrential rain while Marske have racked up comfortable victories against Knaresborough, Percy Maine, a feisty win against Redcar Town, and were also unlucky not to beat Graeme Lee's Spennymoor.
