Club History

Great Chesterford Youth FC was formed in the spring of 2011 in readiness for the 2012/13 season. The club is affiliated to the Essex FA and competes in the Cambridge Mini League, Division 9D, during the inaugural season.

Great Chesterford’s first game was on 10th October 2011 with a 4-3 loss to Elsenham Football Club in a friendly fixture at Great Chesterford Recreation Ground, which is where the team plays home fixtures.

The team is made up of boys that used to attend the Saffron Walden Soccer School on Saturday mornings. Chesterford coaches Steve Smith, Glenn Sullivan and Alan Porter decided to break away from Saffron Walden Town FC at the end of the 2009/10 season.

The name Great Chesterford comes from the home ground, Great Chesterford Recreation Ground. The club badge was a result of some excellent ideas and suggestions from the players. Credit also to Nick Suggs for the fantastic finished article.

The club colours of sky blue shirts, black shorts and black socks were inspired by a football club called Station Garage, which was formed in East London in 1975 by Raymond Sullivan and still plays today.
