Big Game this weekend as Great Yarmouth - Broadland host L & Y in the league. Matches against our Suffolk Neighbours in Lowestoft do not happen often and indeed can sometimes be controversial.
As to if Broadland have ever beaten Lowestoft, yes they have, below is a match from 2008 ,when Broadland certainly got the better of Lowestoft, lets hope this can be repeated tomorrow.

Lowestoft & Yarmouth XV 10
Broadland XV 31
Broadland’s Season kicked off last Saturday with a friendly against Lowestoft and Yarmouth. The match was the opportunity for both sides to work on different combinations for the league season which starts tomorrow.
Broadland fielded a side of familiar faces with only a few changes since the close of play last season, Last minute changes saw prop Matt Beckett showing his versatility by moving from the front row to the back row. It was also a return to the side for, Prop Khan Bilyard, Number 8 Adam Bensley and Fly Half Paul Tucker, Second Row Sam French also made his first senior side start, following a solid season with the Second XV last year.
Broadland kicked off and a knock on gave Broadland a scrum inside the L & Y half, Number 8 Bensley picked up and passed the ball out to Fly Half Paul Tucker, with a number of available options Tucker put in a long pass to Wing Matt Scott who went in to score, untouched from 30 yards out (unconverted). After a period of midfield play L & Y went over to tie the game with an unconverted Try. In the Centres Mark La-Cock and Mark White were putting in some testing runs, Full Back Murray had a Penalty go wide and the game entered the half tied. L & Y made a substantial number of changes at the half (Due to the pre season nature of the game both Captains had agreed unlimited changes prior to the game)
The second half kicked off and Scott was soon in for his second try in the corner (unconverted). Prop Bristo was on the receiving end of a yellow card putting Broadland down to fourteen men, however Broadland’s pressure continued and Lock Sam French was unlucky to have an excellent individual effort for a try disallowed due to penalty at the previous scrum. Broadland’s next try was not long in coming and was certainly the try of the game, from the halfway line Hooker Ross Taylor put in an inch Perfect pass to Morrison at the back of the line out, Scrum Half Burling gathered and sent the ball down the line, Full Back Murray took the ball at pace down inside the L & Y five meter line and Wing Kyle Rogers was in support to take a short pass to score Broadland’s third (converted Murray).
Broadland used all their replacements as Riches, Raven and Leggett all came on, Prop Forward Leggett however was soon the second Broadland player in the sin bin with a Yellow card.
Broadland were racking up the points, The L & Y fullback cleared from behind goal, Wing Lee Raven took the ball before it made touch and passed infield to Fullback Murray, Murray took the ball wide and with great vision cut back though the L & Y three quarters to score under the posts(converted Murray) L & Y were providing a steady stream of replacements as Broadland attempted to control the pace of the game, the Broadland pack was beginning to settle following some early instability and the front five of Bristo, Taylor, Bilyard, Riches and Fenn provided a solid platform for Scum Half Burling to work with. Broadland’s final score came from a scrum. With scrum awarded inside the L & Y 22 meter line Number 8 Bensley picked up and drove forward, Flanker Asa Morrison was on hand for the off load crashed though for the score (converted Murray) Late in the game L & Y added a second score when they stretched the Broadland side across the pitch for an unconverted try.
Broadland can take a lot from the fixture, but discipline could have cost the Yarmouth based side far more. Broadland league season starts tomorrow when they travel to play Lakenham, Broadland 2nd XV play host to Crusaders 2nd XV both matches kick off at 3.00pm
