The Club can announce that Gary Alexander has appointed his assistant.
John Mackie has joined Greenwich Borough as First Team Assistant Manager.
Mackie playing career started off with an apprentice position at West Ham United and then moved on to the Southern Premier League with Crawley Town in 1998 where he played until being spotted by Reading Manager Alan Pardew. Playing out on loan with Sutton United before returning to play for Reading.
Five Years and 71 appearances later for Reading and John moved onto Leyton Orient where he was signed by Martin Ling and crossed footballing paths with our Manager Gary Alexander taking up the Captains Armband from Gary and entering into Orient Legend leading the O’s to promotion in 2006.
At the End of 2007 Mackie was released and signed a two year contract with Brentford who also made him captain but it was to be a short captaincy consisting of just 14 games.
Ending a playing career in 2008 with spells at Hornchurch and latterly Hertford Town.
John joins us from Lings Elite where he has been coaching as a result of his close friendship with Martin Ling, who set up the Academy in 2014 and latterly Mackie has been First Team Manager of the squad who currently sit 5th in Division 1 of the Herts County Senior League.
