Grimsby started very brightly with their direct running and pinned Dinnington deep in their own half for the first 10 minutes. It was no surprise when the Blues opened the scoring. From a line out inside the Dinnington 22 the ball was quickly released and passed all along the back line for winger Jordan Landymore to score in the opposite corner. Fly half Brad Treacher set winger Lewis Rothenburg up for the Blues second try with an excellent miss pass. The Grimsby pressure mounted and forced Dinnington into giving away penalties. From one penalty a quickly taken tap pass by scrum half Lewis Dyson sent centre Jordan Hollington into space. Hollington split the defence and scored in the corner, evading several tackles.
Dinnington became more aggressive and managed to pull back two converted tries before full back Rob Bell scored an excellent try with a supporting run covering the wing. Rothenburg setting Bell up to score. This gave Grimsby a 28-14 half time lead.
In the second half Grimsby introduced all four subs and reorganised the team, and continued to stifle Dinnington. The Blues soon stretched their lead when Hollington scored a powerful try smashing his way through the Dinnington defence. From this point the referee became the busiest man on the pitch with one or two underhand tactics involved. The ref ended up sending the Dinnington prop and Grimsby’s Landymore to the sin bin and warned both captains about their teams conduct. Dinnington pulled a try back before Treacher rounded off a successful match with an excellent try from another quick Dyson penalty tap to give Grimsby a well earned 42-19 victory.
