The Woolwich Cup has been played annually since 1999 between the Royal Artillery and the Royal Engineers. The fixture marks the history between the 2 Corps and their long standing rivalry within sport.
The Royal Engineers were the pioneers within rugby league and definitely the most dominant force. The Engineers won the first contest back in 1999 but lost the game in 2000. The 2001 game saw the holders the Gunners hand it back to the Sappers who in turn were defeated in the 2002 fixture.
This however would be the last time the Royal Artillery would win the Cup for 7 years. During this time the Royal Engineers were undefeated in all competitions but something had to change. In 2010 it did not only did the Gunners win their first ever Army Corps Championship but they won the Woolwich Cup and retained it in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The 2014 fixture though saw the Royal Engineers win the trophy back for the first time in 4 years with a 32 - 16 victory at Chatham.
