Early Years
Halkyn United Football Club was formed back in 1945 in the aftermath of the Second World War and became founder members of the old Halkyn Mountain League which was the forerunner to the Clwyd League. It is believed that Halkyn were a quite successful side in this League in the 1950’s but much of the history of the club is shrouded in mystery.
The club did gain honours during the period up to 1974-75 including Halkyn Mountain League Champions in 1955-56, League Cup Winners in 1958-59, 1972-73 and 1974-75. It was not until many of the current long-serving officials became involved with the club that success was achieved in the late 1980’s and the 1990’s.
The Wonder Years
In the 1992-93 season the club won the Clwyd League Division 1 title and with it promotion to the Premier League. Around this time the Club had a flourishing youth team winning the Clwyd League under-11 in 1992-93, the Clwyd League under 12 in 1993-94 and the North Wales Coast Under-12 League Cup in the same year. The senior team had success as well winning the Arrows Cup and the Clwyd League Presidents cup.
Further progress up the pyramid was achieved in the season 1994-95 with promotion as champions from the Clwyd League Premier Division to the Welsh Alliance. Success continued with the prestigious Barrit Cup making its way to Halkyn in the season 1995-96 and the Cookson Cup the following season.
Throughout their four years in the Welsh Alliance the club competed well and made steady progress. In the 1997-98 season a fourth place finish was achieved behind the runaway champions Holyhead Hotspurs. The following season brought the club back down to earth with an indifferent season culminating in a mid-table finish.
However the 1999-2000 season proved the most successful in the clubs history as they won the Tyn Lon Rover Welsh Alliance League by a clear 11 points whilst remaining unbeaten in the League.
Added to that the club progressed to the fourth round of the Welsh Cup beating League of Wales outfit Haverfordwest County 1-0 away before going out to Caerleon in a close encounter at Pant Newydd.
