Yesterday Halkyn Utd FC entertained Bradley Park at Pant Newydd in the North East Wales League. Halkyn began very brightly and within two minutes Captain Sêan Wilkes opened the scoring, who struck a half volley from the edge of the box which swerved away from the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.
Superb start to the game which gave Halkyn the time to settle and probably play some of their best football this season. Halkyn created many chances within the first fifteen minutes, with the final shot just falling short of finding the back of the black and white net. However Michael Radcliffe starting his first game this season made it 2-0, who found himself in a pocket of space in the box and slotted a neat calm finish into the bottom corner of the goal. Halkyn Utd FC enjoyed an abundance of possession in the first half and looked a threat going forward with threat to make it 3-0. That goal did come through Jon Edmonds who found himself 1v1 with the goalkeeper, Jon knocked it over the advancing goalkeeper and ran around to tap it into the empty net. Bradley had limited chances in the first half but tried their best with the long throws and free kicks, their only chance was saved by Jack Seery down to his left hand side after a long ball through, which was subsequently cleared by Ryan Oldfield to take Halkyn into a half time lead of 3-0.
The second half began with the tables reversed, Bradley Park capitalized and scored within a minute when Halkyn were caught in possession in midfield, a ball was played past the Halkyn defence who appealed for offside, but the referee's sight was obstructed with bodies around him and the Bradley striker scored. Ten minutes later Halkyn made it 4-1, Jack Seery picked a loose ball up in the box and threw it out to right back Shane Wellings who effortlessly broke and ran from one box to the other taking on the Bradley men who stood in his way, before finding Jon Edmonds at the back post who secured his 2nd of the game. Michael Radcliffe was unlucky not to add to his one goal, with some good opportunities 1v1 with the goalkeeper but he could get that bit of luck to find the back of the net. Jon Edmonds grabbed his hat trick when he drove into the box and skinned two or three players before smashing the ball into the bottom corner.
Bradley looked to reduce the deficit when a corner was whipped into the box forcing Jack Seery into a reaction save after the ball took a slight deflection. Bradley hit the woodwork moments later, when a free kick curled and hit the joint of the crossbar and post before Halkyn cleared their lines of the danger.
Sêan Wilkes then hit the post for Halkyn Utd FC with a superb controlled header after Shane Wellings produced another pin point cross. Bradley did pull another goal back to make it 5-2 on the 76th minute, when one of their players found himself with the ball inside the Halkyn half of the pitch just beyond the circle: he launched a shot over goalkeeper Jack Seery who was standing between the penalty spot/edge of the box. Leaving Seery back peddling and unable to save the strike which sailed in under the bar.
A good first half display by Halkyn with midfield four Leon Pickford Joe Foster Sêan Wilkes and Jon Edmonds linking up well and dictating the game giving Halkyn the platform to win the game in the second half. Another three points on the board, before an away trip to Acton FC this coming Saturday, where Halkyn will look to make it six league wins from six on their travels this season.
