Looking towards the future - Handsworth FC

Mitchell Radford22 Jan 2020 - 18:27

Here's to the future!

It is no secret that here at Handsworth FC we have embedded a number of young players to portray their portfolio in the first-team. Add to that the experience of Leon Osbourne who has played for Bradford City, and former Sheffield FC manager Russ Eagle who is joined by the talented Luke Forgione and Aiden Spowage as assistant/coach, we believe we may have a recipe for success.

We currently sit 14th in the NCEL Premier Division, three points behind the 'top ten' but with a number of games in hand (five over some teams) there's certainly a long way to go for us in the second-half of the season. With only one defeat in the last six matches, gaining 11 points from a possible 18 in that time we have to give a thanks to the lads who are turning out and wearing The Ambers shirt!

This article hasn't been written for us to brag or to come across as superior! It is simply an appreciation article for the players who graft for the club every week, with most of the players still being teenagers! It would have been easy for them to buckle under the pressure of a physical NCEL league but they have rolled their sleeves up and got on with the job in hand and we couldn't be more proud of them.

Of course, with all things it will take time. There needs to be a belief in the project, which I'm sure there is and it's echoed throughout the whole club. As long as we have that then the players we have can thrive, and who knows what they might be able to achieve! We've seen classy performances already this season, including the two 0-0 draws against league-leaders Penistone Church and Hemsworth Miners Welfare who were 2nd at the time of the game. The most recent win came against promotion chasing Yorkshire Amateur, a brilliant 1-4 win from The Ambers against all the odds.

Once again, thank you to all the players and staff for all their efforts. Let's push on and keep going, but there definitely is a reason to be excited for the future ahead! #UTA
