Harrow progress in Papa Johns Cup

Harrow progress in Papa Johns Cup

Iain Taffs23 Apr 2024 - 09:54

Impressive victory on the road sets up a home QF tie.

Saturday saw Harrow visit local rivals Tabard in the Papa Johns Cup, with a home quarter final tie the reward for an outstanding display of power and pace rugby.
Early exchanges were relatively even, with Harrow edging ahead with two penalties from the mercurial boot of Billy Argent – 6-0 ahead.
Harrows first try came from a prolonged period of pressure, and from a lineout and quick hands Dan Mcevoy spotted a gap and powered through to score the first try of the game, converted by Billy A – Harrow 13-0 ahead.
Tabard responded with a well worked try in the corner 13-5 – but it was Harrow who were the more dominant both up front, and in execution across the back line.
Harrow next score came in the left corner from Tom Linden, breaking tackles and touching down wide on the left, again converted and Harrow now 20-5 ahead and starting to create daylight between themselves and the opposition.
Next try was probably the pick of the bunch , a long Tabard kick was gathered on his own try line by Tom Linden, and spotting forwards in front of him made a great break through the covering kick chase and found Billy Argent on his right shoulder, he made another break through and spotting a huge void of space on the right wing put through a perfect kick, gathered by Ben Hutton who glided round the full back to score under the posts, conversion duly made, and with another penalty a few moments later Harrow were 30-5 ahead at half time and the contest pretty much over.
Even with a number of personnel changes in the second half Harrow continued to dominate, and 2 further tries, first from Jamie Taffs who ploughed over from the 22 through a tiring Tabard defence into the corner, and the final try a fine individual effort from Vincent Mose – who gathered the ball just inside his own half, and outpaced the Tabard defence to score under the posts. Conversion made, and a resounding 42-5 victory for the Harrow lads.
Onto the quarter finals, with a home draw against Woodbridge RFC who play in the Eastern Counties , and look forward to welcoming them to Grove Field this weekend. 3 pm kick off – as usual all and any support for the lads would be greatly appreciated.
