Report:
Training on Sunday was transformed by an infestation of Wasps, brought out no doubt by the sunshine (shame they couldn’t have made it a little warmer!). We had to rapidly expand our warm up and obstacle course to cope with thirty more player. The visitors were happy joining in and mixed well with our squad. A mini tournament was set up and the quick games gave the players a chance get used to playing the game with different team members as well as picking up new skills.
The games I refereed were played in a competitive but friendly spirit and it was good to see that the Harrow U8’s were not left wanting!
Two massive games of bulldog gave the teams a chance to relax and have some fun before we finished with a more formal match between the two squads. Naturally Wasps had a enough players to change regularly and we had a rolling substitution in play.
Wow, as coaches we were so impressed with our players! Even though they started the game by going 4 try down fairly quickly, they dug in and kept doggedly pushing and doing their best to wrench back control of the attack. To their credit the team worked really well together and managed to pull the game level. It was only in the dying minute of the game that Wasps managed to run in a winning try.
To play that well against one of the biggest clubs in London was a real achievement - we were so proud!!
Our visitors were impressed by the skills of many of the team, one player though stood out for them and us, and this week, Adela was awarded player of the week. Congratulations!
