U8’s weekly report
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to those that were with us last year and a warm welcome to those that have just joined us, it’s really great to see that the children have lost non of their enthusiasm for the game. May I also take this opportunity to welcome Michael on board as a new coach this year and we are of course still fantastically managed by Lorraine.
OK, I’ve finally got round to letting you all know how the U8’s have been getting on – apologies for not getting a report to you for the first Sunday of the season, I think I was in shock!
The youngsters have of course loved a few games of Bulldog as part of the warm up – they have definitely got faster over the summer, what have you been feeding them?!
We have concentrated on refreshing basic skills including passing and receiving as well as practicing doing this on the move.
Now that they are all older and able to concentrate longer, we have played longer games of tag rugby and Michael and I have been pleasantly surprised at what they have remembered from last season. Many have developed a much better awareness of where they need to be on the pitch and are using the spaces available when attacking.
Our fist Sunday saw some new faces and amongst them our first Player of the Week – well done to Asha. He not only integrated himself fantastically with the others, but showed some real flair and was able to attack and defend with skill.
This week we saw further improvements with some really good movement on and off the ball. Many of the players were passing well in the game and managing to keep it flowing.
We saw some great tries and better discipline in defence.
Player of the Week went to Odi for some really brilliant catching of the ball on the run and general all round tactical thinking.
Looking forward to seeing you all next Sunday
Matt
