Harrow U13s win against Watford

Harrow U13s win against Watford

Russell Morris10 Oct 2016 - 19:02

Great team effort secures the win

A great team effort ensured Harrow picked up their first win of the season, in their second fixture.

It was a tight game with good play on both sides, but some good breaks and fine defence were enough to see Harrow victorious, outscoring Watford by two tries to one in each half.

After a very tight opening, Harrow moved the ball well down the line in centrefield with Jamie and Henry involved, and gave the space for Adam to round off a fine run with a try.

Another break, this time by Vinny, was well supported and Kyle went over for the score.

Just before half time, Watford scored a try to reward their own fine efforts despite some valiant defence from Linel, and even though Harrow created some pressure with runs from Purav and Connor, no more scores were possible so Harrow hit the break 2-1 ahead.

Harrow had a strong turnout, meaning there some legs could be kept fresh for the second half, when Asher, Syan and Freddie came on to give new impetus, after a good showing from Kyle, Euan and Ryan.

Harrow's hard work at training paid off as their defence worked well each and every member of the team putting in a great shift, and notably the opposition found it very difficult to gain ground.

Early in the second half there was a good move with Vinny making another break and this time Ted going over for the score.

There was a slight worry when Tom took a hard fall, but he was up and tackling again quickly.

Watford lost a prop to injury, and with no specialist replacement available, scums had to go uncontested which was unfortunate for Harrow as up to that point their scrum had been dominant.

Watford scored another to bring it to within a score with not long left, but with arguably the best rugby of the game - and testament to their fitness work - Harrow rounded off a multi-phase move, including some excellent recycling from Nathan, with Tom powering over for a try.

A very competitive game, both sides will take away some good points no doubt also a few ideas for the coaches to work on, but Harrow ultimately will be the happier having taken the spoils.

Men of the match:
Forwards: Ted for tireless and effective work at the breakdown
Backs: Jamie for a good all-round display, great communication and marshalling of the team
Special mentions: the whole team!
