The team decimated by illness and injury arrived in buoyant mood and were determined to improve up on the performance which was lacking a cutting edge last time out at OV’s.
From the kick off, we started like a rocket. The ball was cleanly caught and we were decisive moving forward together with good passes and support play which resulted in a try after 2 mins. This continuity, good decisions, scrummaging, clearing out at the breakdown, support play and skill level by the whole squad, was repeated all morning as we dominated all phases of play.
The coaches wanted to call out some of the great moments in the game and there were many. This was a complete team performance from all 15 players, whichever combination on the pitch and many covering different positions due to necessity or the coaches wanting to try different options/combinations.
· Excellent teamwork and support demonstrated by the wonderful team move that got the ball moving down the right wing then cut back inside to Santos, who brilliantly pulled in two defenders, selflessly, avoided white line fever and calmly popped the ball to Aaron who finished the move off with the try it deserved.
· Lawrence’s positional play, he held his position well in attack offering an outside option which pulled the defence wide and allowed those inside to punch through. In defence he stepped in and joined a few rucks which helped us to secure the ball - decision making - excellent.
· Whole forward pack were again excellent and scrum becoming a real positive and were quick to the breakdown, never letting the Saracens pack settle. We were competitive in the lineouts winning most of them, even against the Saracens 6ft 2nd row lock forward and not our throws. Even though these were tipped off the top, Eddie scrambled well which allowed us to move the ball quickly and begin our offensive play.
· Eddie was at every breakdown and ensured quick delivery of the ball so we managed to secure and move the ball out to the backs effectively.
· Our flankers were at their destructive best, especially Freddie B’ tireless focused energy and Coalite was positive in attack coming into the line and offloading and putting people into space and together they managed to drive through the rucks and secure turnover ball.
· The interplay between the boys was superb and the whole team were involved, offloading out of the tackle or just before enabled us to keep playing the game at pace, and we broke the gain line from all over the pitch with Aaron, Theo, Elliott, Thomas and Ollie all crossing the try line and in every case their tries were the result of us securing the ball, moving it quickly through hands and putting a player into space.
· Thomas ran the show well from fly half, he was positive, decisive attacking the space in front of him which moved the team forward, this in turn saw positive attacking rugby from every part of the pitch. Even from a poor clearance on our 10 metre line, Thomas managed to catch the ball, deliver a great offload out the back of his hand to Aaron, which saw him run the full length of the pitch to score. This was one of several marauding runs by Aaron who supported on the shoulder of the centres who put him in space and then using the handoff well against, would be tacklers, created more space and off he ran towards the try line.
· Leo had a good game stepping in at the last moment to play inside centre, made some strong runs and good passes putting players into space.
A great day of Rugby, rebuilding confidence in the team performance and from individual boys who stood up and showed us parents and coaches their ability and skill sets. This high level needs to be maintained and we’ll look at to go again next weekend, against a strong Twickenham RFC team.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the players who turned up & played. Despite the poor weather & muddy pitch, it was a great morning of Rugby. Huge credit to the Saracens boys, who showed great attitude and character to continue despite one boy injured and the max score line reached. They never dropped their heads and kept trying hard all the way to the final whistle. We asked to be updated and have been told that the injured boy is all ok and according to his dad, can’t wait for the next training session/game.
Thanks to Jo for arranging all to be in attendance & for Saracens RFC for being great hosts.
