Season 15. 1947/48

The season started with four straight league defeats, this was followed by a run of twelve successive cup matches. So by the time we played our fifth league match on December 6th , we were stranded at the bottom of the league. A win that day by five goals to nil over Lyons Club registered our first points of the season, Henderson, Bridges, Roberts (2) and J. Drinkwater scoring the goals. In the F. A. Cup we won 4-0 at home to Tufnell Park, then beat Berkhamsted away 4-3, thrashed Wembley 9-0 with John Drinkwater scoring a double hat-trick before losing at Leavesden by three goals to two. In the Middlesex Senior cup we were beaten by Harris Lebus, but their pitch was decreed to small & a reply was ordered which Harrow won 2-1. In the next round Wembley revenged their F. A. Cup defeat winning 3-1.
We eventually finished 10th, George Tyson top scored with 22 goals.
The clubs first foreign trip was undertaken in July 1948 with a trip to Lisseweg in Belguim. R. H. Drinkwater scored a hat trick in a 6-3 win’
