Season 20
1952-53
Former Player Alan Bridges was the team manager for the 1952/53 season. The season started with three straight defeats in the league, then a 3-0 home over Wood Green with Cyril Ward & John Ward (2) scoring seemed to have kick started the season. Alas, heavy defeats to Uxbridge on following two Saturdays in the F.A. Cup (1-8) and the Amateur Cup (2-5)showed the sides weakness’. Only one more point in a 1-1 draw at Hertford was gained by the end of November. Alan Bridges stepped down as manager with another former player Denis Russell taking over. Results improved as a respectable top half of the table was achieved after having been bottom at the start of December.
In the Middlesex Senior Cup a 4-1 win over Ruislip Manor set up a visit to Finchley. In an exciting encounter Harrow held the Athenian League side to a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes , Cyril Ward, John Ward & Kenny Gee scoring, but in the latter part of the game Goalkeeper J. White had to go off injured. So Harrow had to play extra time with R. Lewis in goal. Ron Franklin had also picked up an injury, this in the days before substitutes were allowed , and Finchley over powered their lower league opponents winning 7-3 after extra time.
A first ever match under floodlights for the club was played at Headington United (now Oxford United). George Tyson scoring in a four one defeat. A few days later another friendly was played against a Brighton & Hove Albion x1, Harrow winng 2-1 with George Tyson & John Ward hitting the net.
Over the season George Tyson top scored with 18 goals. Tyson along with Kenny Gee were selected to play for the Spartan League Rep. side.
