Having finished as runners up in the Spartan League, the club had a new challenge stepping up to the Delphian League. An opening day win over Bishops Stortford by six goals to one was the only league win in the first five league matches when an incredible 25 different players appeared in the team. A combination of injuries, unavailability and the manger trying to find his strongest eleven as he brought in a number of new players. In the side that beat Bishops Stortford were two Welsh youth Internationals Mal Lucas and Clive Lloyd. Lucas would sign for Leyton Orient a few weeks later, going on to star in their side that was promoted to the old First Division and he became a Full International. In the game at Ware in September Loftus-Tottenham , brought in Istovan Kovacs, a Hungarian Full international who was returning to football after a couple of years out of the game.
A draw at Staines Town in the F.A. Cup was followed on the following Thursday by a 2-3 defeat in the replay. It was a makeshift side due to injuries & unavailability, with goalkeeper George Wood , Centre Half Ron King ,Don Aldridge & Clive Lloyd among those that were missing.
When the Amateur Cup got underway in late September the team was starting to bond. Wembley were beaten 4-2, with two goals each by Ken Aldridge and Clive Lloyd. This was followed by another home draw against Willesden that ended 2-2 with a goal each from the Aldridge’s. In the replay Don Aldridge and Micky Bottoms were on target in 2-1 win. This set up a local derby at Lower Mead . In which our goalkeeper George Wood, signed from Wealdstone a year before, was outstanding against his former side. After only four minutes the Stones were awarded a penalty but Wood was equal to the kick by England Amateur International, Charlie Townsend. Town went ahead after 18 minutes when half back Peter Woods smacked the ball through a crowd of players. Wealdstone did not get back on terms until early in the second half when Parfitt equalised, then soon after Farrell gave them the lead. Ken Aldridge then put Harrow level before Micky Bottoms converted a cross to complete the comeback. The next round took Harrow to Sussex to play Corinthian League side Horsham. After an unsettled start and conceding the first goal, Harrow dominated the rest of the match with goals by Don Aldridge, Bottoms & Lloyd securing an away tie at the Amateur giants Corinthian Casuals The tie was played at the Kennington Oval , Harrow had the majority of the play having a number of chances to score before Ken Aldridge did opened the scoring with a fierce shot from a Kenny Gee cross just before half time. In the second half Don Aldridge went agonisingly close to getting a second goal for Harrow. Then fifteen minutes from time a hesitation between Ron King Wood allowing Browne to get between them to equalise for the Casuals. Late in the game Kenny Gee broke clear but his shot narrowly missed the far post , so a replay was required. A Large crowd at Earlsmead saw Harrow have another fine first half in which Kenny Gee headed home a Fred Peake corner to give the home side the lead. Unfortunately the Casuals dominated the second half, George Wood saved a penalty but the visitors scored three goals to end Harrow’s best ever Amateur up run.
League form improved, achieving “doubles” over Berkhamsted (6-2 , 7-0), Stevenage (7-0, 5-1), Hemel Hempstead (3-2, 6-3), Tufnell Park ( 1-0, 2-0)and the league Runners Up Hornchurch (2-1 twice)to finish in fourth position.
