Season 29. 1961/62

Harrow Borough9 Jul 2023 - 14:22

Season 29. 1961/62

After three very good seasons since joining the Delphian league, Harrow suffered a change of fortunes struggling near the foot of the table. Defeats included both league matches against Bishops Stortford even though they had been beaten 7-1 In the F.A. Cup earlier in the season. We were knocked out of the F.A. Cup by Enfield in front of our biggest home attendance of the season of 870.
In the Amateur Cup we had a three all draw with Staines Town in which Alf Willis scored twice & along with Dave Norman netting the other. In the away replay Harrow lead three times as Willis again score twice along with Davis but in the end Staines were victorious 4-3.
We visited Claremont Road in the Middlesex Senior Cup, putting up a great battle before going down 4-2 (Norman & Streak scoring). A welcome win in the London Senior Cup over Crown & Manor by 3-1 (Willis 2 Davis) before being knocked out by Cheshunt at Earlsmead by three goals to one,
Only three wins in the league resulted in our poorest league placing for 26 years of second bottom. We did not win any an away match all season.
Alf Willis was top scorer on 20 goals followed by Dave Norman on 17.
