Season 30. 1962/63

We started the Delphian League season with two defeats then a draw before a first win as Dave Roden scored the only goal against Leyton. The following eleven weeks would all be various Cup matches. A 5-2 home win over Wokingham in the F.A. Cup before being knocked out at Oxford City (4-2) with Len Berryman and Joe Bibby scoring in a game watched by over 2000 spectators. In the Amateur Cup a goalless draw at the White Lion brought Edgware to Earlsmead where they suffered a 5-0 defeat, Dave Roden scoring a hat-trick and Tony Conniff a brace. Civil service were dispatched 4-0 before a one all draw at Hampton were Conniff was on target again. In the replay Roy Streak scored for Harrow but it ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat. The London Senior Cup saw wins over Wembley (5-2),and Hermes (7-1) before defeat at Walthamstow Avenue.
Snow fell across the country on Boxing Day, the home game v Harlow Town was still played the following Saturday but the players must have wished it wasn’t as the visitors won 7-0. There would not be another match played until the end of February, then in early March the league season was abandoned. An emergency competition of two divisions with teams playing each other once was set up. We started with three defeats to Berkhamsted (0-1), Edmonton (1-5) and Windsor (0-3), who would finish as the top three. The other four matches were all won and with only one goal conceded.
Our leading goal scorer overall was Roy Streek with 14 followed by Dave Roden on 12.
At the end of the season it was announced that the Athenian League was to incorporate the Corinthian League as Division One and the Delphian League as Division Two for the 1963/64 season.
