The Delphian League had become the Athenian League Division Two . Harrow started the season with a 4-1 defeat at Tilbury followed by a 0-2 home defeat to Windsor & Eton. The third league match would not be until November 2nd when Aylesbury United were defeated 4-2, thus earning our first two Athenian League points and Peter Lavers scored his first league goals for the club. Lavers had already found the net half a dozen times in the Cup matches during September and October. In the F.A.Cup Dave Timberlake and Lavers had scored in a 2-1 win at Bishops Stortford, only to lose by the same score at Ware in the 2nd qualifying round with Lavers again scoring. The Amateur Cup would see the club reach the 2nd round proper for the first and only time. A 2-1 home win over Rayners Lane (Richardson, Lavers) started the run. One nil victories over the Civil Service (Timberlake) and Wembley (Lavers) followed before Edgware came to Earlsmead. Mike Angel and Dave Timberlake scored the goals that saw off the side that were riding high in the Athenian Division one .This set up a trip to Kent to play Herne Bay, when the forwards went goal crazy, winning 7-0. December brought a break in the cup fixtures , the fourth league match of the season was finally played as Harlow Town were downed 3-0 (Angel, Lavers & an OG). Our only league defeat before returning to the Amateur Cup would be a 2-1 home reverse to our bogey team Hertford Town.
Berkhamsted Town in the First Round proper would take two attempts, we drew away 2-2 with Mike Angel and Frank Fondyke scoring. In the replay the following Saturday Dave Timberlake & Terry Wood scored the goals that won the tie 2-1. Carshalton Athletic were the opponents in the second round, they were riding high in the Athenian League Premier Division at the time, Peter Lavers goal for Harrow was only a consolation as Carshalton won 5-1. In front of a attendance of over 900.
Returning to league action after the Cup exit we went on a run of ten straight league wins, a club record that has only been matched but never bettered since. This included a 9-3 win over Tilbury, the team that would win the Championship only above Harrow on goal average. The run of wins ended with a 2-3 home defeat against Wingate (Lavers 2), it was the fourth match in eight days having beaten Wingate away the previous Saturday 5-3 ( Timberlake, Lavers 2, Angel. Fondyke), Berkhamsted at home on the Monday 3-2 (Timberlake, Wood, Lavers)and Windsor & Eton on the Wednesday 4-3 (Wood, Angel, Lavers, Banbury). The mid week fixtures at Ware and Aveley both losing by one goal to nil were vital on the run in. Wins over Edmonton, 7-1 with Lavers Angel and Timberlake scoring two each along with Mick McCaffrey the other , Hemel Hempstead 3-1 (Angel, Wood, Fondyke) and Windsor & Eton 4-1 (Lavers 2 Fondyke, Timberlake) kept it exciting right to the end of the season.
Peter Lavers was top scorer with a club record 45 goals in a season. The five forwards scored an incredible 108 goals between them. Dave Timberlake scored 32, Mick Angel 16, Frank Fondyke 14 and skipper Terry Wood 11. Dave Timberlake was ever present during the season
