Earlsmead was closed for the whole season. So every League fixture was played on our opponents ground. Our ‘home’ F.A. Competition games were played at Lower Mead, Wealdstone, whilst the reserves played at the L.N.E.R. ground in Sudbury.
We started the season really well with three league wins and a draw before the cup games started. In the Amateur Cup, Rayners Lane were beaten 3-1 thanks to goals from Billy Gill, Steve Hewitt and Gary Fowles. Then a trip to Chalfont St Peter where Mo Boreham scored a hat-trick and Billy the other in a 4-1 win. Ruislip Manor were held to a draw at Lower Mead (3-3, Gill 2, Fowles) then in the replay at Grosvenor Vale another draw (1-1, Gill). The 2nd replay was played at Church Road, Hayes and Billy Gill scored again but Ruislip won the tie, 2-1. This would be our last ever match in the Amateur Cup
In the F.A. Cup, Isthmian League side Tooting & Mitcham United were our opponents in a ‘home’ draw. Harrow were massive underdogs and conceded a goal inside three minute. The team raised their game to come back and win 2-1 with goals from Roy Tweed and Alec Stacey. The next round was a trip to Essex against another isthmian side, Aveley. Harrow had plenty of chances but none were taken and the hosts won by a single goal.
In the Middlesex Senior Cup, Old Latymerians were beaten 5-0 (Gill 2, Steel, Fowles & Boreham) then Rayners Lane 3-0 (Steel 2, Gill) before our fifth and final home match at Lower Mead against giants of the Amateur Game, Hendon. This was the last season when clubs were recognised as “Amateur”. Boro put up a spirited performance against the reigning Isthmian League Champions as Billy Gill scored in a 4-1 defeat.
League formed dropped off in the New Year, perhaps playing away every week started to take its toll. There were some good wins including Easter Monday winning our home match at Windsor 4-0 (Gill 2, Stacey & Steel),followed by beating Edgware two days later 6-0 (Steel 2, Gill, Stacey, Boreham & Kasza). The final position of eighth place could easily have been higher.
Leading scorer was Billy Gill with 19 goals followed by Alec Stacey on 16.
