Mike Tomkys was in charge for his first full season. A campaign spent almost entirely in mid table Early away wins at Maidenhead 4-3 (Seward 3, Bennett) and Horsham 4-0 (Cerasoli 2, Bennett, Seward) were followed by a match at home to St Albans City that was abandoned due to floodlight failure when Boro were winning 3-2. The match was replayed in November, which Boro lost 3-1.
The F.A. Cup saw a replay defeat at Witney Town (1-1, then 1-2), but the F. A Trophy would bring joy as the first round proper was reached for the first time.
Sittingbourne were beaten away 2-0 (Cerasoli, Bennett), then Fareham Town away 1-0 (Thomas) before another away match and clean sheet at Carshalton Athletic who had been runners up in our division the previous season. Bobby Bennett scored the goal that set up a home tie against local rivals Wealdstone.
The Wednesday before the Trophy match Wealdstone had beaten then Football League side Hereford United in the F.A. Cup, they arrived at Earlsmead as overwhelming favourites. The referee was Phillip Don who would go on to Referee F.A. Cup & Champions League finals. In truth the Stones hardly had a look in as Boro produced an outstanding performance in front of a 1,038 attendance. Visiting keeper Lightfoot had made a string of fine saves in the first half but was beaten straight after the break by a shot by Steve Hill. Frank Seward scored a stunning 25 yard strike to make it two, then Hill added a third. Mike Tomkys era as Boro manager had really started.
Another big attendance was at Earlsmead for the first round proper tie against Dagenham who had reached the final the previous year. Losing to a late disputed penalty was a disappointment, being the only goal conceded in five Trophy fixtures.
A final league position of 9th was achieved to equal our performance in our initial season in the Isthmian League two seasons before.
Leading scorer was Frank Seward with 17 goals followed by Bobby Bennett on 12.
The reserves were runners up in their first season in the Suburban League under the management of former Harrow player Don Durkin.
