The season opened with a 2-0 home win over Tooting & Mitcham United, Peter Sharratt and Dave Pearce scoring the goals. Unfortunately that would be the only win in the opening seven league matches although creditable draws against Wycombe Wanderers (1-1, Stein) and Dagenham (3-3, Stein, Sharratt & Pearce) showed we could match the top sides.
A welcome 2-1 win at Marlow in the F.A. Cup where Cliff Rapley and Dave Pearce scored. St Albans came to Earlsmead in the next round with Boro going down 3-4 (Sharratt & Pearce 2)
League form improved, Dulwich Hamlet were hit with a Sharratt hat-trick as Pearce scored the other in a 4-1 win. Leaders Enfield were beaten by a single Pearce goal, while Slough left Earlsmead pointless as Pearce and Derek Harris scored in a 2-0 success.
In the F.A. Trophy a trip to Bognor Regis generated a full supporters coach, but the trip was a disappointment as Boro were a shadow of their recent form, going down 2-1 with Cliff Rapley converting a penalty.
League points were being gathered and by February Boro were up to 4th place in the table. In the final 10 league matches our only win was achieved at home to Walthamstow Avenue (1-0, Emmanuel). Thus dropping back to final position of 9th.
The semi-final of the London Senior Cup was reached for the first time. Enfield were beaten 3-1 (Sharratt, Rapley, Stein), then Walthamstow 2-1 (Pearce, Manoe) before a marathon quarter final with Hitchin Town. Peter Sharratt scored in a 1-1 draw, the replay at Earlsmead also finished 1-1 after extra time with Dave Pearce scoring in the 86th minute. The 2nd replay again went to extra time before Pearce scored to settle the tie after 330 minutes of football.
Leading scorer ws Dave Pearce on 33 goals, followed by Peter Sharratt with 19.
The reserves, now managed by Keith Chamberlin, won the Suburban League (North) by a margin of 11 points as they only suffered defeat twice all season.
