Only Steve Emmanuel and Laurence Holmes remained from the championship winning side of two years earlier as Keith Chamberlain began his second season at the helm of the Borough. But the side that had finished fifth in his first season was, by and large, kept together and it was to be another strong campaign.
This time round it was the defence that was to be the foundation for Harrow’s campaign, and they only let in 44 goals in the 42 league games, only two fewer than in the championship season, the highlight being a run of 10 games from late January to early March that only saw two conceded, helping Chamberlain to the February Manager of the Month award. Just one more goal in a final day 3-1 win at Bognor Regis would have seen Harrow finish fifth again, but as it was they came sixth, pipped by Bognor on goals scored. Wycombe Wanderers won the league and were never seen at Isthmian level again.
Supporters were excited in the Spring by the appearances of American international striker John Kerr, on a scholarship to the UK from Syracuse University and arguably the fastest forward ever to wear a Borough shirt. Indeed when he made a visit home to the USA, the Vice-Presidents paid for him, and his mother, to return quickly to the UK.
Borough exited the FA Cup at the First Qualifying Round having been handed a nasty trip to Fisher Athletic, while Dagenham accounted for Harrow in the FA Trophy after a good win at Canterbury City in the previous round. Bognor accounted for Harrow in the league cup, Maidstone United did the same in the GMAC Cup, the inter-league cup that existed at that time. In the Middlesex Senior Cup, Harrow appeared to have reached the semi-finals with a win at Hendon, but the hosts appealed that Kerr, and Welshman Tony Guard, had been ineligible to play. Their appeal was upheld, the game was replayed, and this time Hendon prevailed.
