1976/77 the 44th Season in the history of Harrow Borough F.C.

1976/77

Now in our second season of Isthmian League football Boro made a great start winning our first four matches. Only two of the first twelve league matches ended in defeat and a top four position was maintained into October.
In the F.A. Cup Willesden were beaten 3-1 despite goalkeeper Graham Cracknell having to withdraw just before kick-off, so striker Gary Gilbert went between the sticks. Frank Seward scored in his sixth consecutive game along with goals from Gary Fowles and John Cerasoli. A visit to Leytonstone in the next round ended in a 2-0 defeat.
The F.A. Trophy tie at Hertford Town ended goalless, then Boro won the replay 2-0 thanks to goals by Alan Green and Frank Seward. Cheshunt were beaten at Earlsmead 5-3 (Fowles 2, Cerasoli, Seward & Bennett) before suffering a defeat at Walthamstow Avenue’s famous old Green Pond Road ground by a single goal.
The early season promotion challenge had long been forgotten by New Year as a run of just two wins in fourteen league matches caused a drop into the bottom half of the league table. During this time we also exited five cup competitions, the F.A. Trophy, League Cup ( v Hampton 0-1), London Senior Cup (Leytonstone 0-1), Middlesex Senior Cup (Hampton 0-2) and the Middlesex Charity Cup ( Uxbridge 0-1) all without scoring a goal.
After a 2-0 defeat at Chesham on February 12th manager George Taylor decided to step down as manager, during the week reserve team manager Mike Tomkys was invited to take over the first team vacancy. In the remaining sixteen matches of the season Tomkys side would only suffer two defeats whilst rising up the league to finish fifth.
The Leading scorer was John Cerasoli on 21 goals followed by Bobby Bennett on 18 and Frank Seward on 17.
