The only two Boys Brigade Old Boys Rugby Clubs in the World met at the Old Friarage for the 23rd match in this now established unique series of fixtures. It was also the twelfth match dedicated to the memory of former Hartlepool B.B.O.B. player, captain and Club Chairman Peter Kegans.

With the series standing at Northampton 14 wins and Hartlepool 7 with one drawn, the Friarage lads were therefore keen to claim the 'World Cup' title and once again display the Ships Bell in the Cosmopolitan.

A sizeable squad assembled with Edwards, Shaw and Hetherington starting for Northampton. The visitors had begun tour match preparations some twenty four hours earlier and Sooty's attempt to imposed a player drinking curfew had clearly been ignored.

Following the usual pre-match reception at the Cosmopolitan a good crowd saw the game kick off in bright sunshine and first blood to Northampton. Winner of The Peter Kegans Trophy in 2011, Ben Mann, proved he had lost none of his pace and power as he cut through the defence to touchdown. Hartlepool replied with a try from Phil Gorman converted by James Evens, currently on loan to 'Rovers'. However that 'Mann' again ran through the defence to take the lead for the second and final time during the match Tries from Howe and Craggs took the half-time score to 17-10.

Dave Kerr, a club regular between 2005 and 2010 before moving out of the area, made a welcome return with his thirty-eighth Brigade try before Northampton reduced the arrears with two tries and one conversion.

The remainder of the game was largely dominated by Hartlepool as the tourists began to flag and scores came through Scott, Whitehead, Arnell, Gorman and Howe. Final score. 60-22

At The Cosmopolitan, Hartlepool BBOB Chairman, Jonny Starrs thanked the touring party for their efforts in contributing to another successful meeting between the two clubs and reflected on how valued this relationship is to players and supporters. He next presented The Peter Kegans Award to visiting man of the match, Alex Mawby.

Northampton President, Andy Collier congratulated the winning side and handed over the 'World Cup' Trophy, adding that he looked forward to 2020 when the prize might be regained on home territory. He also thanked Jane and staff for the excellent and generous hospitality provided for both players and supporters.

The Committee of Hartlepool B.B.O.B wish to congratulate Northampton on heading Midlands 4 East (South) this season and gaining deserved promotion. Thanks to all those who made this, the 23rd 'World Cup', another memorable rugby occasion
