We welcome the management, players and supporters of Thorne Colliery FC to the Jones and Co recreational ground for what will be our final Central Midlands league fixture of 2016. Our visitors find themselves third bottom of the league, having just won two of their sixteen fixtures and drawn three to give them just nine points at this time of the campaign. Their two victories were a three two home win over Collingham (a side that beat us three two just a few weeks ago), and a two one away win over Dinnington. They have shared the points at Retford and Tideswell and a home game with Phoenix. Although not an impressive number of points at the half way stage of the season, games with Thorne over the years have been mostly close, and I am sure they will be looking to overturn the four one defeat they suffered to ourselves back in August, when goals from Josh Davies, Michael Davies(2) and Callum Hudson saw us bring home the points.
As far as ourselves are concerned, hopefully the effects of last weeks disappointing defeat (or as our chairman puts it 'heartbreaking') will be put behind us and we can put in another excellent display as we did last Saturday. Until that last five minutes, the players had done everything that the management had asked them to, and with better finishing (Connor excluded) we would be talking about one of the best results that the Colliery had achieved in recent times. But as we all know football is a game that lasts ninety plus minutes and if you do not concentrate until the end, don't take your chances when they arise, then we all know what can happen!!
On Sunday the Harworth Ladies play their most important game of the season when they entertain Doncaster Belles, that play in the north east counties league, in the Sheffield cup . Nick and the girls have had a great start to the season, being undefeated in the league with a one hundred per cent record, and their only defeat was a very unlucky cup defeat to a side one league above them by five goals to four. The Colliery hoo do of not taking your chances came to the fore that day and really they should have won all their competitive games played so far. If you can please get to the Jones and Co recreational ground to give them your support for this very important fixture and let's hope we can finish 2016 with a couple of wins so we can all enjoy Christmas and the new year. All that's left to say is a safe journey home to everyone and a happy Christmas to everyone.
