You’ve been at the club a long time now an in that time you have seen a lot of changes both on and off the pitch, it must be nice to look back and see how far the club has come?
I joined the club as a 18 year old boy and am now a 25 year old boy had some great times at the club and some low points as well have seen a few managers come and go and seen us into the new venture which I feel has really brought the club forward and more rounded as a whole with the kids and women’s teams really adding to the life and soul of the club. Still have to say I still and always will miss the Rec and the shed my home for a special period in my life.
Historically the reserves have been languishing at the bottom of the table, this season finds them comfortably mid table and with a string of results could see them into the top 3/4, what do you think is the reason behind them having such a good season?
I think the reserves squad has grown steadily over the last 3-4 years if you look back at our seasons we have often been in a league where there are 3-4 teams who have dropped down leagues or recently formed who are far superior to most of the sides in the league including ourselves it’s hard to bread confidence and momentum when you are getting beat 6/7/8-0 every other week. Another big factor this year is we have always lacked experience and I feel this year our more experienced/quality players have stepped up this year and setting good examples mixed in with some of the raw and quality coming through the youth ranks has been a nice balance and team spirit which is showing in our performances so far this season.
Which player has impressed you most so far this season?
A difficult question to point out one player as there have been some solid performers this year so far; such as young Lewis who has gone onto first team action and well deserved. Tom and Buck another 2 young lads have impressed and make me look half decent as well! You’ve also got the consistent twins James & Scott who have both had solid season’s and its been nice to see the squad depth’s this year save them the stress! The player I have been impressed with the most though this season so far is Ryan Dawson makes a huge difference for us playing up top usually on his own he just knows how the play the game and more often than not it sticks so Ryan Dawson for me or Jihadi John as I like to call him.
What's your best moment of the season so far?
Best moment of the season so far is beating Earls Colne away during early part of the season I believe it was 6-0 and during the second half after I had a wayward shot, Rick (lino) shouted at me to do my job and pass the ball in forward areas to others, 20 seconds later GOB sticks one in the top bin from 25-30yards... concentrate on the line Rick!!
What are your hopes / expectations for the rest of the season?
Just to continue with our good run of form really and win the games we are capable of winning starting with Col Athletic Saturday and finish as high as we can in the league ready for a title push next year which I feel is a very realistic target with what we have and where the younger lads will be next season after this years’ experience onwards and upwards for the reserves and lets gets more young lads filtering through and into the first team, a strong reserve side equals a strong first team and a strong club! Blue & Black army!!
