The 1st XV Senior team currently play in the NOWIRUL Howell & Co Division 3 West League, which following the restructuring of the Lancashire and South Cheshire RFU Leagues, now has a familiar feel to it. The presence of other Cheshire clubs such as the Gentlemen of Moore, Capenhurst, Eagle, Parkonians, Port Sunlight, Prenton, Mossley Hill and Crosby St Mary's this season means that the League consists entirely of "1st Team" opponents and these old rivalries against our neighbours will be renewed once again following a six year hiatus.

Having been appointed to the Club Captaincy following his predecessor, Chris Goggin's decision to stand down at the end of the 2019-20 season, new Captain, Matty Burns will be raring to lead the team out following the season-long enforced lay-off due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Helsby side will carry an international feel to it this season, with two Romanian recruits plus South African, Aiden Finlay in the back-line joining fellow debutants James Harper, Kirk Drummond and Paul Wright in what will be a new-look Helsby post lock-down.

As always, newcomers are most welcome to Helsby and (although a sense of humour is a must!) we pride ourselves in being a club that doesn't operate cliques. So if you're looking for a new club - whether you're a youngster making the step-up from Colts rugby, a newcomer to the game, new to the area and/or an old head wanting to play out a few more seasons - you'll be guaranteed friendly "Hello"!

Training is every Thursday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on the club's new 3G pitch on Callender Way, Helsby (WA6 0FX) - meet pitchside 10 mins beforehand. (Please note that the pitch is fitted with a rugby shockpad, so sessions may involve full contact drills and regular rugby boots should be worn and gumshields are advised).
