Ben began his footballing career back in 2003 when he signed pro with Watford after coming through the Academy ranks. After spending two years with Watford, he left without making a first team appearance. Ben made his name though at Shrewsbury Town, signing for the Shrews in June 2005 he went on to make over 140 appearances in four seasons, which also included an appearance at Wembley in the League Two Play Off Final which they lost 3-1.
Following his release from Shrewsbury he signed a Two year contract with then League Two side Aldershot Town, clocking up 150 appearances in four seasons and picking up Player of the Season and the Players Player of the Season awards.
Ben was released at the end of the 2012/13 season and in 2014 joined Dunstable Town, where he was made Club Captain. Ben joined Boreham Wood in February 2015 and played a part in their promotion via the play-offs to the Conference Premier for the very first time. However, following the conclusion of the season, Herd left the club and signed for The Tudors.
