Loss at Longridge but another step taken forward...

Tonight Hesketh Bank faced a strong Longridge Town side on day 3 of the major season.

With Tony Sergeant absent, Graham Jones was drafted into the starting 11. Henry Heighton once again guarded the net for Hesketh Bank in his 50th competitive game for the club. Frazer Hitchings returned to the starting XI and Mo Lulat was replaced by Yousef Kaffo in centre midfield. Hesketh Bank took the lead in less than a minute after a good run by Kevin Cox down the right hand side before laying the ball of to Steven Cannon, with the goalkeeper infront of him, drilled the ball into the roof of the net. The lead however lasted no more than 14 minutes as Longridge equalised from what looked like an offside as the striker volleyed on the turn past Heighton. Heighton was the kept busy as he caught cross after cross to keep the scores at 1-1.

1-1 soon became 2-1 after Jack Cocking was caught trying to see the ball out for a goal kick. Instead the winger robbed the ball of him and smashed the ball past Henry Heighton in the Hesketh goal. Longridge kept pressing for another goal but kept firing the ball of target. Jones then sustained an injury to his groin and was replaced by Darryl Grant who was then pushed to right back and skipper Cox switching to centre half. Longridge nearly made it 3 but were denied by the finger tips of Heighton and the woodwork as Heighton finger tipped a low shot onto the woodwork. Cannon nearly made it 2-2 as his rocket shot flew past the former BAC Preston goalkeeper but also past the post.

The scoring was completed when a well worked corner saw a fine volley struck past Heighton to which he could do nothing about as the man lost his marker to tap the ball home.

Another loss but positive things to take from this game as we pressed and defended together like a team. Jack Cocking and Kevin Cox did a good job in getting the ball away from goal and Kaffo and German both linked up well in midfield. 3-1 but its a sign of better things to come. Just like manager Evergreen says, "everything starts with a struggle."

Squad: Heighton, Cox(c), Jones(Grant 45'), Cocking, Brierley, Hitchings(Owens 19'),Milton(Ahmadi 71'), Kaffo, German, Ascroft, Cannon.

Players and Supporters Man of The Match: Steven Cannon
