MOTM: Daniel Coleman

Tuesday 4th May saw North Star's final league game. With league positions all but wrapped up this was a free game and Star were looking to score a few goals.

KICK OFF

Star started with an unfamiliar formation as they looked to get more people in the oppositions half. The first 20 minutes Star looked like the change could work, the chances were coming but as fast as they were coming they were being missed, one of North Stars problems this year has not been taking their chances.

As the game went on Kirkholt got more into the game and began causing the away teams defence some problems, the formation began to bite them in the arse with the center backs being pulled around everywhere... The ball was going from back to front missing the midfield out once again.

There were no real clear cut chances until the 40th minute when Daniel Coleman coming back from injury scored a pearler. The ball was cleared to the half way, Coleman collected the ball, skipped past two and took aim from 35 yards. The keeper was back peddling grasping at thin air... LOBBED... 0-1. Goal of the season?

HALF TIME

The general feeling at half time was that Star were playing in second gear, no one was moving or looking for the ball, we expected an easy game and just switched off. The gaffer changed it back to 4 4 2 at half time hoping that would get the lads playing again.

KICK OFF

The half began in the same fashion as the first finished with neither team really going for it and Star playing at a canter... 50, 60, 70 minutes passed and nothing really to report, Star had the ball in the opponents half a lot but again didn't really do much with it, they seemed to be lacking direction.

Then the unthinkable happened... Kirkholt equalised. A long pump forward, Star tried to clear it twice but the ball some how broke to the forward, he was through, one on one and finished nicely. 1-1

Star couldn't go out drawing against bottom of the league! They began to push forward but this was leaving gaps at the back, which could punish the boys in red.

80th minute and a dubious got Star back in the game. A corner was swung in from the left and there was Daniel Hadfield to fire the shot in. The ball looked to be cleared off the line but the ref gave the goal! Much to Kirkholt’s displeasure which saw a player red carded for his reaction. 1-2 did North Star deserve that?

This is how the match ended with Star happy with the win and Kirkholt pissed off with the referee.

FULL TIME

We were extremely lucky tonight, we went into the game thinking we would walk it and whenever we do that we get that kind of result! A win is a win and now we can look back at the league knowing it was a good campaign!

WELL DONE LADS.
