Focus on Division Two

Action in Division Two has been under way for six weeks and sadly before a ball was kicked in anger, four sides, Chalfont Wasps, Abingdon United, Flackwell Heath and Witney Town all withdrew for various reasons.

Division Two West has settled into a three way tussle between Highworth Town, Shortwood United and Cirencester Town. Highworth Town currently lead the table and remain unbeaten after seven matches, their latest victory came on Tuesday evening in a competitive affair at home to 4th placed, Gloucester City Dev’ by 3-2.

Highworth were made to do it the hard way going 0-2 down at one point. The game swung on the sending-off of a Gloucester City player, which allowed Highworth enough leeway to snatch what may prove to be a vital win later on in the season.

Shortwood United are second having scored eighteen goals in their last two matches. Significantly however Shortwood lost 1-5 to Highworth in an early season match which again is a result that might have considerable bearing at the end of the season.

The situation in Two East is similar to Two West with a close fought tussle developing at this early stage between four sides.

Holyport currently lead the table by three points having played a game more than Slough Town and Burnham in 2nd & 3rd places respectively.

Ascot United with two matches in hand stand ideally placed to make a challenge from the 4th position they currently occupy.
