Hollinwood’s First team signed of their pre-season campaign with an emphatic 4-1 win over local rivals Diggle.
With manager Fred Hardicre fielding a starting line up with 6 players making there first team debut, it was as expected a slow start for the wood. Although dominating play from the on set it took a good half hour before the new players gelled with their slick passing and movement of the ball. This resulted on 20 minutes with Diggle getting in behind Hollywood’s left back and chipping the out coming debutant keeper James longdin.
This set back didn’t phase the wood with Ryan Roby and Gary Nolan dominating midfield with quick interchanging passing. Also the new full back Orson Cummings linking up well with fellow debutee Mark Pyatt on the right and Reuben Areu being a constant threat on the left.
With 6 substitutes on the bench and eager to give all players a fair crack of the whip. The first substitution was made on 35 mins with the introduction of Brazilian Edivaldo dos Santos and Nathan Rossweire. The constant threat of Matt Simpson upfront brought about Woods First goal with him dispossessing the Diggle centre half and finding Nathan Rossweir wide right who delivered a pin point cross at the far post for Paul Booth to head home.
At half time wood made further substitutions with the introduction of Lewis Green and Rod Thomas. This soon brought more chances for the wood with Mark Pyatt playing in the whole he was creating openings for both Mark Simpson and Paul Booth. However it was a double strike From Reuben Areu that sealed the game. Hollinwood introduced two more new signings on 55 Minutes with Ex Fc united player Barry Davies playing at Left back and Brazilian winger Edi Diego playing on the wing.
Woods final goal came with a bit of neat work and Brazilian Flare down the right with Edivaldo riffling home from 30 yards and celebrating with a Nani Style Somersault.
Bring on the Season and it looks like samba Football all season down at Chapel Road 3G. As Hollinwood put together a side capable of challenging for honours.
