The die was cast very early on, with Holmer not closing down opponents bearing in on Tom Bryant from up to 50 yards away. This pattern did not really change throughout the 90 minutes, and The Greens’ approach to games will have to change if they are to climb away from the lower reaches of the table? Following Dave Lynch’s resignation several “regulars” have already transferred to other Hellenic clubs more handy for their home location such as Long Crendon and Ardley United. Therefore there was a debut up front for Charlie Gibbons. On 13 minutes Martin put the Gloucester visitors ahead when his long range effort squeezed under Tom Bryant. But the ‘keeper was a hero six minutes later when he kept out a penalty. Chances came and went for Longlevens, and it seemed perhaps that they did not want to go further ahead. The closest the home side came to an equaliser was as late as 44 minutes, when James Jarrott and Alex Colverd combined without really troubling the ‘keeper. HT 0-0
The second half began with Jack Aston on for Matt Wooster, with Jarrott going into midfield. There was more cohesion from Holmer in a half punctuated by several injury stoppages. Holmer escaped giving away another penalty on 75 minutes, when the otherwise excellent Referee seemed to take pity on The Greens’ defender who mistimed a tackle. But this only delayed the inevitable second away goal on 83 minutes, again by Martin.
Plenty of work ahead for our Caretaker Managers, and some more changes may come pretty soon as some more of our players go back to their Universities.
