Kotwica solo goal gives visitors shock early lead against high- flying Town

The Greens gave debuts to Khedive McIntosh and Jethro Odumosu in new Manager Matt Stowell’s Hellenic League baptism. Aaron Bryan continued after his first match for the club on Tuesday, and Josh Todd was recalled with Liam Tyler dropping back to replace the suspended Ben Booker. Holmer started confidently against fourth placed Town and found themselves one up within four minutes. Pav Kotwica was presented with the ball by a Fairford misplaced pass, just inside his own half and centrally.
The interrupted Town move had left the two centre-halves well apart, and Kotwica drove straight through the unbalanced defence at speed before drawing the ‘keeper out. Rounding the custodian comfortably to slip the ball home from eight yards. The home team was subdued at first by this unexpected setback, and some of their management team became seriously affected by the score. But the home team on the field responded well, although Holmer was playing much better than in previous games. No doubt buoyed by the good performance last Tuesday when they only went down to a single goal. But The Greens lack of fire power was going to cost them again, as the home ‘keeper had a fairly easy afternoon. Town hit the post on 20 minutes as they regained their form, and levelled and took the lead within four minutes either side if the half-hour. Firstly a through ball evaded the centre-backs and was finished smartly across Hall, then a shot from a similar distance was deflected under the ’keeper. Matt Hatt almost battled his way through in a position to equalise just before half-time, but could not keep his effort on target. HT 2-1
The visitors needed a steady start to the second half, but the complete opposite happened. A low left wing cross was not cut-out at the near post on 46 minutes, and a forward was then allowed to turn and fire a super shot into the top right-hand corner of the goal. As if that was not enough of a set-back, skipper Matt Wooster who had combined well with both McIntosh and Odumosu had to be replaced by Kai Morgan, with Bailey Page taking on the role of captain. Fairford looked to turn the screw now, but the reorganised Greens showed great resilience and Hall was in fine form. Defender Harry Vaughan replaced the substituted Kotwica up front for the final 15 minutes, but Hall was finally beaten again on 88 minutes. The tiring visitors who had gradually been dropping deeper failed to close down a good home passing move, and the ball was struck firmly into the goal of the inside off a post.

Team: Hall, Kevin Mbevi, Bryan, McIntosh, Tyler, Page, Wooster ©, Odumosu, Kotwica, Hatt, Todd.
Substitutes Used: Morgan, & Vaughan.
