The Greens paraded two more newcomers in Luis Fernandes and Jan Greenslade, and there was a second start for James Heady after a brief midweek appearance. None of the 14 Holmer players used in this fixture last season played in this game. Most are now spared this sort of trip by playing at Step Six. The Tuffley Ground is tucked away near the Bristol Road out of Gloucester on the Old Gasworks. But the welcome was very warm, the facilities fine, and the pitch perfect. Holmer played well in the first half, but Tuffley were generally on top and came nearer to scoring. Their centre-back coming forward, and striking the foot of the Holmer post from 25 yards. HT 0-0
Ironically The Greens played even better in the second half, but were beaten by conceding two goals on 54 and 79 minutes. Both were well taken, by unmarked attackers. Kai Morgan and Matt Hatt up front looked dangerous, because of their work rate, pace, and trickery. Matt Wooster and Khedive McIntosh worked well in midfield, George Hall looked solid in goal. The rest of the team including the two substitutes used performed admirably at this level despite having little experience. Skipper Matt Wooster, with in excess of 110 appearances, has more games under his belt than the rest of the team together! The visitors were finally rewarded with the one goal at least that they deserved on 90 minutes. After Josh Todd has forced the corner, McIntosh sent a measured cross to the far post teasing the home’ keeper from his line. Harrison Holbrook judged the ball to perfection nodding it down into the net. This was Holmer’s seventh game away out of ten league matches played, thus far. At home we have a win, a draw, and a defeat. Things are looking up.
