Having gone into the season with a positive buzz after some strong pre season performances Holt were brought crashing back to reality with a very poor 7:0 loss in the first league game against high flying local rivals Aylsham.
After this heavy defeat in the opening game Holt struggled to gain rhythm in the league with new manager Luke Field having to regularly change his formation and starting line-up due to player availability. This lead to further loses to local rivals Sheringham and North Walsham and Foulsham with Holt only picking up their first points of the season with a home win to Hempnall on 12th September. Even this win could not change Holts fortunes as they suffered another 3 defeats.
Holt then picked up a point against fellow strugglers Poringland with a great game for the neutrals with a 4:4 scoreline and goal of the season contender for the returning English.
Again this point could not turn Holts fortunes with the following four games all being losses and as well as losing Captain Sanders through suspension. This left Holt bottom of the table on 4 points and looking increasingly like relegation candidates.
However Holts performances had seen a significant improvement through these games with the consistency in team selection and formation.
Holt fortunes then began to change with a hard fought 3:2 victory at local rivals Hindringham, Which saw Holts young forward Doy and young midfielder Goodrum both finding the back of the net.
The spirit from this win then gave Holt confidence in their next game at home to Loddon, where they took a half time lead of 2:0. The game saw both wingers Hudson and Chapman causing problems down the flanks and were both rewarded with a goal each for their efforts. Holt continued working hard and took their second victory in as many weeks, finishing the game 2:1 winners.
The last game before Christmas saw Holt travel away to high flying Bungay. Although confidence was high in the Holt side having won their previous 2 games, Bungay were a different calibre of opponent. However Holt started brightly with Doy continuing his personal goal scoring form with another 2 goals and veteran Clarke also scoring before half time. As expected Bungay attacked all second half but Holt fought and defended superbly with James, English and the George's giving everything to ensure Thomas and the teams first clean sheet of the season.
3 wins in three weeks saw Holt rise to 13th in the Table with a 6 point cushion from the relegation zone.
Holt will look to take their renewed confidence into the new year and continue improving their performance to push further clear from the relegation zone and look to compete for a mid-table finish.
